Blueberry water kefir

Spring brings a special kind of softness… in the scent of lilacs, the gentle warmth of the air, and the craving for freshness, lightness, and natural flavors. In this spirit, this simple yet magical recipe was born: blueberry water kefir, a drink that blends good bacteria, the colors of nature, and the feeling of springtime joy.

Lilacs take us back to childhood, to our grandmothers’ gardens, to calm evenings when everything feels softer and lighter. This recipe captures that feeling in a glass, with the effervescence of water kefir and the deep, velvety color of blueberries. Each sip offers freshness, vitality, and a hint of nostalgia. Blueberry water kefir isn’t just a healthy drink. It connects us to nature, to the seasons, and to those little moments that bring joy.

Sastojci

    • 500 ml fully fermented water kefir

    • 1 handful of blueberries (fresh or lightly thawed if frozen)

    • 1 teaspoon honey (optional, for added sweetness)

    • Glass bottle with a lid (for second fermentation)

Priprema

  1. Pour the fully fermented water kefir into a clean glass bottle.

  2. Add the blueberries. If using frozen berries, let them thaw slightly to release their full flavor.

  3. If desired, add a little honey for extra sweetness.

  4. Close the bottle and leave it at room temperature for 24 hours to allow the second fermentation.

  5. After 24 hours, strain the kefir, chill, and enjoy!

  6. For a touch of springtime magic, serve in a glass with an edible lilac blossom as a garnish — just make sure it’s unsprayed and safe to eat.

  7. For a deeper purple hue, blend an extra handful of blueberries with 150 ml of water, then strain the mixture through a cheesecloth or fine mesh sieve to get a clearer liquid. Add this to your kefir drink for a more vibrant color.
